Built for the prairie east of Lethbridge

Hail, wind and a lot of sun. What a roof east of Lethbridge has to take.

Coaldale, Taber and Vauxhall sit on open, irrigated prairie, with long sunny summers, summer hailstorms and wind that has little to stop it. Here is what an Interlock® aluminum roof does about each, and where its limits are.

Hail

Summer storms over open farmland

Insurance Bureau of Canada said in September 2025 that hail had caused about $6 billion of insured damage in Alberta in five years. Interlock's Slate, Shake, Cedar Shingle and Mediterranean Tile aluminum panels carry a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating, listed by Intertek under Delta Building Products. That does not make them hail-proof: very large hail can dent aluminum, and the material warranty excludes hail larger than 38 mm (1.5 in).

Sun

Long, bright summers

Taber is known for its corn because of how much sunshine the area gets, and the climate around it is semi-arid. Sun is what fades and dries an asphalt shingle over the years. The Alunar® finish on Interlock panels is covered by the 30 Year Alunar® Coating Warranty, and the aluminum underneath cannot rust.

Wind

Wind with nothing in its way

On flat, open land a roof takes the wind at full strength, and on asphalt the damage starts at the tabs and the ridge. Interlock panels lock to each other on all four sides with the fasteners covered, and wind resistance is warranted to 193 km/h (120 mph) installed to manufacturer specification.

Permits

Permits in Coaldale

In Coaldale, building permits are issued and inspected by Superior Safety Codes, not by the Town office, and some projects need a development permit from the Town as well. Taber, Vauxhall and the Municipal District of Taber set their own requirements. We confirm what your roof needs at your address before the crew starts.

Ice dams

Where ice dams come from

Ice dams form when heat from the house melts snow on the roof and the water freezes again at the cold eaves. That starts in the attic, not in the roofing, and the material warranty excludes ice damming. We look at your insulation and ventilation at the consultation, and plan snow guards where sliding snow would land on a door or a deck.

This site covers the Town of Coaldale, 11 km east of Lethbridge, and the towns east and north of it: Taber, where Highways 3 and 36 cross, Barnwell, and Vauxhall and Hays to the north. Why homeowners here choose aluminum

One roof for sun, wind and hail. And one company behind it.

Our crews

Our crews, start to finish

Interlock Metal Roofing (Alberta) Ltd. installs every roof with its own crews, working from our Calgary office. Nobody else measures, installs or answers for your Coaldale roof.

Profiles

Slate on nearly every roof here

Slate is on most of the roofs in our job book for Coaldale, Taber and Vauxhall. It comes in nine colours, alongside Cedar Shingle, Shake, Mediterranean Tile and Standing Seam, all made in Canada, on any roof with a slope of 3/12 or more.

Tear-off

Over the old roof, or off with it

A single layer of asphalt can stay under the new roof only if our inspection finds it suitable. Two layers, cedar shakes and shingles, concrete tile and natural slate always come off. The quote says which, in writing.

Farms

Every building on the yard

On a farm near Taber or Vauxhall the house, shop and outbuildings can share one profile and colour. We price each building as its own line, so they can be done together or over a few seasons.

Warranties

Material and labour, both in writing

The manufacturer, Interlock Roofing, gives the Guardian Lifetime Limited Material Warranty on the aluminum and its finish for as long as the original purchaser owns the home, transferable once, workmanship excluded. Our 10 Year Limited Labour Warranty covers the installation.

Price

One price, before you sign

We measure the roof and inspect the decking and attic where we can reach them. Anything the inspection finds goes into the written price, not onto a later invoice.

Recycled

Up to 95% recycled aluminum

And the last tear-off your house is likely to need.

Straight answers

Coaldale roofing questions, answered.

All of our answers ↗

Who installs Interlock metal roofs in Coaldale?

We do: Interlock Metal Roofing (Alberta) Ltd., the certified Interlock® roofing contractor for Alberta, founded in 1999 and based in Calgary. Our own crews install every roof. The panels are made in Canada by Interlock Roofing at its plant in Delta, BC. We are BBB Accredited with an A+ rating, Baeumler Approved, and a 2026 GuildQuality GuildMaster Award winner.

Do I need a permit for a new roof in Coaldale?

Check before you start. In Coaldale, Superior Safety Codes issues and inspects building permits, and some projects also need a development permit from the Town. Whether a straight re-roof needs one depends on the work, so we confirm with them for your address. In Taber, Vauxhall and the MD of Taber the local rules apply.

How does an aluminum roof handle hail here?

Well, though not without limits. Interlock's Slate, Shake, Cedar Shingle and Mediterranean Tile panels carry a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating, listed by Intertek under Delta Building Products. Big enough hail can still mark aluminum; hail over 38 mm (1.5 in) is excluded from the material warranty, and storm damage is claimed through your home insurance. Ask your insurer how it treats an impact-rated roof.

Which communities does coaldaleroofing.com cover?

Coaldale, Taber, Barnwell, Vauxhall and Hays. The rest of Southern Alberta is on calgarymetalroofing.com: same company, same Calgary office, same warranties.

Do you have an office in Coaldale or Taber?

No. Our only office is in Calgary, at 210, 3750 46 Ave SE. The crews travel from there, and the consultation can be on Zoom or at your home.

What does a metal roof cost in Coaldale?

The cost page shows real contract prices from the Interlock® roofs we signed across the Calgary & Southern Alberta market in 2025 and 2026. They are a rough guide only: prices vary from job to job with structural and other conditions, and an in-home roof consultation is required for an accurate price. The consultation and written quote are free.
